M.Sc (Mathematics)

The department of Mathematics offers Two Year postgraduate course M.Sc. Maths under Bharathiyar University, Coimbatore. Essentially, the course is designed to explore the application of Mathematics across other disciplines like science and such streams.The program is designed to educate eligible candidates about mathematical methods like the abstract science of number, quantity, and space, also as abstract concepts that are used in the field of science, engineering, business and industry.

Career Prospects

M.Sc Mathematics students can pursue Ph.D, M.Phil., B.Ed., M.Ed., M.Tech. They can do research in IITs and universities. They have a bright future in the teaching career. There is a demand for doctorates in Mathematics in ISRO(Indian Space Research Organization), DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organization), NAL (National Aeronautical Ltd), Indian universities and foreign universities. They can easily get through the exams conducted by NBHM, UPSC, SSC, Banking Services Recruitment Board, Railway Recruitment Board and LIC. They can join in Defence Services (Air force, Navy, Army), as havildars (Education). UPSC is having CSAT (Civil Service Aptitude Test) at Preliminary Level. In the recruitment of IAS and IPS officers clearing CSAT is a cake walk for mathematics students. STC trains the students to face competitive examinations conducted by State and Central Governments successfully. In STC, the students are highly encouraged to do research.
